ENJOY & RESPECT MALCESINE

ENJOY & RESPECT MALCESINE

Malcesine is not just a tourist destination, it is much more. It is a living creature that requires love, care, and attention. It is a delicate ecosystem that, like a flower, must be handled with care. Feel part of our town and its community, and respect it. By following a few simple tips, you can organize your visit in a more conscious and sustainable way, significantly enhancing your experience.

WHAT WE ARE - OUR AUTHENTICITY

In Malcesine, so beloved by tourists and attracting an ever-growing number of visitors, the main challenge is preserving its authenticity. This includes ensuring that residents can work, shop, and carry out daily activities without issues. Without the Malcesinians, our town would be less interesting, less welcoming, less real! For this reason, we remind you of some simple behavioral guidelines to make it easier to coexist with locals while allowing you to immerse yourself in our “melsinea” life. Thank you in advance on behalf of all Malcesine residents!

Turn down the volume. Have fun and enjoy local spots (restaurants, bars, meeting places), but always respect others, especially at night and in the historic center when people are resting.

Choose the right clothes. In hot weather, dress comfortably but avoid beachwear unsuitable for an urban setting. This is a must when visiting our historic centers, churches, or the Scaliger Castle.

Do not obstruct the passage. The charming, ancient narrow streets of the historic center can pose challenges for modern mobility, for both tourists and residents. When moving around, pay attention to others’ needs: prioritize people with reduced mobility, avoid causing congestion, ensure you don’t block sidewalks, park bicycles or scooters only in designated areas, and do not leave bicycles in the narrow streets of the historic center. Bicycles are prohibited in the historic center; only hand-carried bicycles are allowed.

Discover our traditions. Before tourism, Malcesine thrived on fishing and agriculture. Experience our traditions by visiting our oil mill to learn how our delicious olive oil is made or the Cassone Fishing and Lake Museum to discover our lake and fishing activities. MALCESINE PET FRIENDLY

Malcesine is an inclusive and welcoming destination, especially for our four-legged guests. Many accommodations offer dedicated services for dogs. We’ve installed dog waste bag dispensers throughout the municipal area, a dedicated dog waste area near the Father Mario Casella Gardens in the center, and a Dog Beach at Retelino. We ask for respect for our territory and environment with a few simple rules to keep our town clean and welcoming for guests and animals alike.

  • Dogs are not allowed on our beaches when other bathers are present. Use the Dog Beach in Retelino, with convenient parking nearby.
  • Owners or keepers must use a leash and muzzle in enclosed spaces and on public transport, ensuring dogs do not soil or cause disturbances.
  • Dogs accompanied by their owner or keeper can access public areas, but they are prohibited in spaces designated for specific purposes, like children’s playgrounds or certain gardens, when clearly marked with signs.
  • Owners must have tools to remove dog waste and clean urine, especially in the town center, using water to dilute and clean walls and pavements. If you forget or run out of bags, you’ll find dispensers and public fountains for cleaning.

SMART MOBILITY - MOVE IN A SUSTAINABLE WAY

Walking. The area from Navene to Cassone is easily accessible on foot thanks to a flat, scenic cycle path along the lake, over 10 km long. Many famous attractions are concentrated in a smaller, mostly flat area in the historic center or nearby zones, easily reachable on foot.

By bicycle. Malcesine aims to lead in sustainability and invites you to explore by bicycle. Many accommodations offer dedicated services, and you’ll find rentals, itineraries, guided experiences, charging stations, and maintenance stations. Please follow simple rules to ensure an orderly town and safety for all:

  • Bicycles are not allowed to be ridden or parked in the historic center, except in designated areas (Via Navene and Viale Roma). Carrying bikes by hand is permitted, but we recommend parking them to enjoy the historic center.
  • Free charging and maintenance stations are available throughout the area.
  • Along the lakeside cycle/pedestrian path, exercise caution and moderate speed due to pedestrians.
  • Visit visitmalcesine.com and visitmalcesine.ktips.it for itineraries, experiences, and bike shops offering rentals, repairs, and professional advice.

Public transport and local mobility services. Malcesine offers a public transport system with buses and ferries. In addition to ATV’s scheduled services, the Urban Bus provides 14 daily trips to explore the area. For stops, timetables, and costs: Urban Bus. Taxis are available at the bus station or by direct call: Info and contact. Navigarda ferries connect lake destinations, with a stop in central Malcesine at the port: Info and costs. For drivers, check real-time parking availability: Parking.

BE SMART - PLAN YOUR VISIT OR VACATION IN MALCESINE

Malcesine is rich in cultural and natural treasures, attractions, and experiences waiting to be discovered. Planning ahead is the smartest way to enjoy this beauty, avoiding queues and crowds. Check the official tourism websites visitmalcesine.com or visitmalcesine.ktips.it. Book your Malcesine-Monte Baldo cable car ticket online to skip queues: Info and costs. Explore attractions beyond typical tourist routes, like recently restored Great War itineraries in nature: Experiences.

BE REALLY SUSTAINABLE

The planet’s resources are limited. While traveling, adopt the same responsible habits as at home regarding water and waste. Malcesine’s tap water is safe to drink, offering an eco-friendly way to stay hydrated. Use a reusable water bottle and fill it at town fountains. Malcesine excels in separate waste collection thanks to residents’ efforts. Dispose of waste in the correct bins: yellow (plastic and cans), blue (paper), brown (compost), green (glass), grey (residual waste). Ask your host for the nearest ecological island. Keep the historic center, beaches, and paths clean. Conserve water with shorter showers and efficient washing. In summer, use air conditioning sparingly and keep windows closed when it’s on.
