Being a sailor and a coach has taken me to some of the most beautiful places in the world where I have met people from all over the world.
When I meet new people, the first question is always spontaneous and always the same:
"Where do you come from?"
"Malcesine, Lake Garda"
always provokes the same reply, even from those who don't know it:
"Wow, they say that that is a fantastic place!"
And they are right.
Who else can wake up each day to such a beautiful lake surrounded by green or snowcapped mountains?
I can assure you that there are few people in this world who have that privilege.
Between sailors, windsurfers and kitesurfers, Garda's fame is mainly due to the wind that blows most of the day, all year round.
For some people, the wind is an irritation, but for those of us who live for the passion of planing, of doing regattas and for going fast on the water, the wind is a fantastic companion.
And it is for this reason that thousands of people come to Lake Garda each year to train and have fun in the varied conditions that we have on the Lake.
Thanks to the characteristics of the the two main winds, Malcesine is a great place to race.
Learning to sail a boat can be fun and easy if you learn in the proper way with a qualified instructor.
Apart from courses, you can also rent dinghies, keel boats and cabin boats all of which will satisfy the needs of peaceful cruising on the Lake, technical training and physical training.
Without trying to be falsely modest, Alto Garda has seen a huge proliferation in recent years of first class training and non-training sailing programmes organised by the local sailing clubs which are amongst the most famous in the world.
The Centomiglia of Gargnano has encouraged increasingly important regattas to be assigned by the Italian Sailing Federation (FIV) to our local sailing clubs.
The Fraglia Vela Malcesine is certainly a club where all activities are run with good organisation, a warm welcome and
great professionality: it gives huge satisfaction to receive compliments after a regatta from people, many of whom come from far away, who salute you with a "Thanks, I've had a great time, just like being at home!"
To bring as many people as possible to Malcesine has also a good economic impact and is one of the many benefits for this area.
One thing that makes many visitors here envious is the local sailing culture: most people here who live near the water, own a boat and whenever possible get out on the Lake for a sail.
To transmit their passion for sailing, whatever form of sailing it is, to the locals is a fundamental desire of the people who frequent the Fraglia Vela Malcesine.
It would be wonderful if, one day, all the residents of this area knew how to sail on our lake.
